Achieving Your Norwegian Goals Starts Here!

Velkommen til norskkurset!

This guide contains everything you need to know to get started and succeed in your Norwegian A2-C1 course. Read it carefully, and you'll be ready to go!

Your A2-C1 Course Journey

Our A2-C1 courses are designed for students who already have a basic foundation in Norwegian and are ready to become fluent. We focus on building your confidence and ability to speak in any situation. This journey is continuous and subscription-based, so you can learn at your own pace for as long as you need.

CLASS TYPES

Conversation Classes:

These are the heart of our program! You'll spend most of your time actively speaking, listening, and discussing various topics with your teacher and classmates. The goal is to build your fluency and confidence in real-life conversations.

Grammar Classes:

While focused on specific grammar points, these are still very much conversational! You'll learn grammar rules by actively using them in dialogue and practice applying them correctly in spoken Norwegian.

Writing Classes:

This is where you get personalized feedback on your written Norwegian. You'll book a writing slot on the calendar, choose a topic, submit your written text to our WhatsApp group, and then receive a personalized video correction and feedback from a native teacher.

Please join our WhatsApp group with your fellow A1 students and teachers. This is a great place to ask quick questions, share successes, update us, and get updates about classes. Just remember to check your personal messages for any important one-on-one communication.

Subscription & Payments

How It Works

Your subscription is monthly and automatic. This ensures you get continuous access to classes and materials.

The payment will be processed automatically each month from your start date. If a family member or company is paying for your course, they can simply use your payment link.

Managing Your Account

If you need a temporary break (4 to 12 weeks), you can pause your subscription. This stops charges and saves all your credits.

If you decide to cancel, you would unfortunately lose any remaining credits and access to our course materials. We always recommend pausing if you think you might return!

How Credits Works

Our credit system is super flexible: 1 credit = 1 class. Best of all, your credits never expire! As long as your subscription is active, unused credits automatically carry over to the next month.

If you cancel your subscription, any remaining credits you have will  be lost. We don't want that to happen!

LEARNING PROGRAMS:

At Norwegian Community, we offer two distinct ways to learn to ensure that your studies fit your lifestyle.

Fixed Schedule

Our Fixed Schedule, currently available for the A2 level, is a structured 12-week program designed for those who thrive on routine. In this program, you will follow a clear module-based roadmap, attending classes at the same time each week with a consistent group of classmates and a dedicated teacher. It is the perfect choice if you want a set path from start to finish.

Flexible Schedule

If you need more freedom, our Flexible Schedule uses a "pay-as-you-go" credit system that puts you in total control. This option allows you to book individual sessions on the calendar whenever you are free, meaning you can change your days and times every single week to match your shifting work or life commitments. This is the best fit for students with unpredictable schedules who want to learn at their own pace without being tied to a specific timetable.

The Quick Guide to Getting Started

STEP 1: Your Free Course

If your A2 course start date is more than one week away, we encourage you to take our A1 self-study course—it's a gift from us to help you prepare even more.
If you are starting at the B1 level or higher, you can focus on the verbs you need to learn.

STEP 2: Watch the Onboarding Video

This video is a mandatory guIde to get you familiar with our course and how to use the calendar.

STEP 3: Log in to the Calendar

The calendar is your main hub for all classes! This is where you'll find everything you need: your schedule, Zoom links, and preparation materials. We'll send your login credentials in a separate message.
Having Trouble? If your calendar shows classes from other levels, don't worry—that's a common bug. Just use the links and materials on your schedule that are for your course level. If you need more help, send us a message!

STEP 4: Prepare for Your Class

Classes are conversational and active! To get the most out of every lesson, preparation is mandatory.

Find Your Materials:
You'll find the preparation materials you need for your scheduled class right on your Calendar. Click on the class to view the topic, required reading, or activities.

Set Yourself Up: Go through the material before the class starts. This helps you build confidence and makes it easier to engage in the conversation!

What to Expect in Class

Scheduling

Our A2-C1 classes are all online and conducted via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere. Your schedule is completely flexible. You have the freedom to book any class on the calendar that works for you.  If you miss a class, no worries! The class recording and notes will be available on the calendar for about 10 days after the session. Make sure you download them if you want to keep them! If you're having a hard time with your schedule, please reach out to us so we can help!

All class times are in the Norway timezone.

Booking Classes

After your first month, you will book your classes yourself! The onboarding video guide will show you how to easily do this. If a class you want is full, don't worry! We add new classes regularly to keep up with demand. Just check the calendar for other available slots. If you ever feel a class is too crowded, remember to check the calendar for other available slots with fewer students, so you have more speaking time!

Learning Pace

We know that it can feel a bit intimidating to join a class where some students have already been there for a while. Rest assured, this is an intentional part of our teaching style and one of the biggest benefits of our course! You'll find a mix of new and existing students, which is a great thing! You'll learn not just from the teacher's corrections, but also from listening to your more experienced peers as they speak. This gives you a realistic feel for natural conversation and helps you build your vocabulary and grammar faster.

Class Size

We keep our classes small (max 8 students) to ensure you get plenty of time to speak and ask questions! Our teachers always do their best to ensure everyone gets a chance to speak. If you ever feel a class is too crowded, remember to check the calendar for other available slots with fewer students, so you have more speaking time!

Evaluation

Your evaluation is scheduled, but it's not a separate test you need to prepare for or attend at a specific time. Instead, our teachers will assess your progress based on your overall performance and participation in your regular classes. So, you don't need to do anything extra on that day! Just keep attending your usual classes and participating as you normally would. Once the teachers have completed their assessment, you'll receive a detailed feedback report with your results.

Frequently asked questions

How does the subscription work?

Our course is a recurring subscription. When you sign up, you are billed automatically every 30 days (for the monthly plan) or every 3 months (for the bundle plans). This ensures your seat is reserved in the classroom and your teacher is scheduled for the month ahead.

How does the course work in general?

We focus on a "flipped classroom" model. You are encouraged to review materials beforehand so that the live sessions can be dedicated to interaction, feedback, and clarifying difficult concepts with your teacher.

How does the ‘A2 Fixed’ structure work?

The A2 Fixed course is a 12-week structured program divided into Modules. Because it is a rolling curriculum, you can jump in at any time! If you start at Module 3, you will complete Modules 3 through 12, and then loop back to finish Modules 1 and 2 at the end. This ensures you cover every grammar point and vocabulary set in the A2 level. Currently the fixed structure is available for A2 course only.

How does the ‘Flexible Schedule’ work?

Unlike the Fixed Course, which follows a set path and timeline, the Flexible Schedule is built around your life. You purchase a bundle of credits and use them to book classes whenever you are available. You aren't tied to a specific group or a specific day of the week.

How do I book my classes?

Once you have credits in your account, you simply log into the student portal, view the available time slots for your level, and click "Book." You can book as far as a month in advance or even just a few hours before a class starts (if there is space!).

Is there a deadline to use my credits?

Credits are usually valid for the duration of your monthly subscription cycle. We recommend booking all your sessions at the start of the month to ensure you get your favorite time slots and teachers.

What is the cancellation policy for a booked class?

Because our teachers prepare specifically for the number of students attending, we require 2 hours' notice to cancel a booked session and get your credit back. If you cancel with less than 2 hours' notice or "no-show," the credit will unfortunately be deducted.

Can I switch from the Fixed Course to the Flexible Schedule?

Yes. If you find that the 12-week fixed pace is too much for your current schedule, let us know! We can transition your remaining balance into flexible credits so you can continue learning at your own pace.

Where is the link to my class?

All class links are sent via your registration email and can also be found in your student dashboard. If you can’t find it, please check your spam folder or message your coordinator at least 30 minutes before class starts.

What happens exactly once I cancel my subscription?

You will continue to have access to your classes and the student portal until the end of your current billing cycle. For example, if your next payment was due on April 10 and you cancel on March 25, you can still attend classes until April 9.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, you can cancel whenever you like. However, to avoid being charged for the next month, you must submit your cancellation request at least 3 business days before your next billing date.

Why did my subscription keep going after I told a teacher I was busy?

To make a cancellation official, it must be processed through the administration team. Informing a teacher is helpful for attendance, but it does not automatically stop the billing.

If I cancel, can I get a refund for the "unused" portion of my month?

No, we do not offer pro-rated refunds for the remaining days in a billing cycle. Once a month has started, you are covered for the full duration of that period.

Can I get a refund after 2 weeks of attending classes?

Our standard refund policy allows for a full refund within the first 7 days of starting the class, provided you have attended no more than one class. Requests made after 2 weeks or after multiple classes are generally beyond the refund window, but we are always happy to discuss alternative solutions like account credits or level adjustments.

How do I pause my subscription or payment?

If you have a medical reason, a family emergency, or a major exam (like a residence permit test), you can request a Pause. We can put your subscription on hold for 1–3 months so you don’t lose your progress or your current pricing.

Why was I charged for credits I didn't use?

Our system operates on a subscription basis to ensure your spot in the class remains reserved. Unused credits typically expire at the end of the billing cycle unless you have a specific "carry-over" agreement. To avoid losing credits, we recommend booking your sessions in advance!

What happens if I fail the Saturday exam?

Don't panic! The exam is a tool to see if you’re ready for the next level. If you don't pass, you simply stay at your current level for a bit longer to master the material. There is no penalty, and you can retake the exam later.

Can I stay at this level even if I pass?

Yes! Many students pass the exam but don't feel "confident" enough to move up yet. You are welcome to stay and repeat a few modules to solidify your skills before moving to the next level.

What if I’m not getting enough speaking time.

Group classes are great for listening and diverse interaction, but we know speaking is a priority! If you feel you need more "mic time," let your teacher know. We also offer Standard or Speed plans that provide more frequent classes to increase your total speaking minutes per week.

What if the level is too hard or too easy for me.

Don't struggle in silence! If you feel misplaced, we can arrange a level assessment. We can move you back to A1 to build a stronger foundation or move you up to B1 if you’re ready for a challenge.

I missed a class, what do I do?

Life happens! All sessions are recorded. You can find the recording in your portal. Please watch it and download it within 10 days, as recordings are removed after that to save server space.

How am I evaluated during the course?

Evaluation isn’t just a one-time test; it’s a continuous process! Your teacher monitors your participation, your ability to use new grammar in conversation, and your listening comprehension during every live session.
